AT BANKNEWPORT, leadership’s approach to health and wellness is based on an all-encompassing view of the bank’s 320 employees’ overall health, says Vice President and Human Resources Manager Ryan Camara.

“That is mental, physical and financial wellness,” Camara said. “We try to assess where our employees are throughout the year through a health screening we do, as well as measure engagement.”

Based on those responses, the Newport-based bank then charts its wellness plan based on needs and identified trends. Flexibility is the name of the game, Camara says.

“If we start seeing people who are struggling mentally with certain aspects, then we’ll focus some of the programming on those specific areas,” he said. “We really try to focus overall [health] on a holistic approach.”

BankNewport uses Virgin Pulse – a health and wellness navigation platform used by companies of all sizes, including Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. – to measure engagement.
