BARRINGTON – Open your wallets Barrington residents, the East Bay town is the most expensive Providence suburb, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek.
The magazine drew real estate and cost of living data from Onboard Informatics and other sources to identify the priciest suburb in each state. BusinessWeek said it defined a suburb as a major area within 40 miles of the state’s largest city or cities.
BusinessWeek said the median home price stood at $320,500 in Barrington. The town’s cost-of-living index rating was 148. (Higher numbers equal more expensive costs. By way of comparison, the cost-of-living index in Scarsdale, N.Y., is 311.)
The index factored in the cost of food, entertainment, health care, insurance and clothing and compared it to the state average.
Barrington’s nonretail spending index was 149. The index accounted for expenses such as mortgage and utility payments and compared it to the state average.
