BOSTON – The Massachusetts Health Policy Commission put Partners Healthcare of Massachusetts’s plan to merge with Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary on hold, pending review, according to The Boston Business Journal on Friday.
The HPC says that the deal may impact health care costs in the state and may also create an excess of market power.

The commission will present its findings on July 26 to officially begin a study on the impact of the proposed purchase. The state has between 74 and 104 days to complete the review, barring an extension, according to the BBJ.
Care New England is currently in talks to be acquired by Partners Healthcare, the two companies announced in April.
