BCSB sponsors Nativity Prep teacher

TAUNTON – Bristol County Savings Bank, through its charitable foundation, recently awarded $10,000 to sponsor a teacher for a year at Nativity Preparatory School, the independent New Bedford middle school that provides low-income children with a tuition-free prep-style education.
The Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation grant went to first-year teacher Peter Lynch.
Bristol County Saving Bank said it has emphasized its support of nonprofits in the South Coast region since opening its Dartmouth branch three years ago and announcing the construction of a New Bedford branch.
Since 2007, the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation has donated about $200,000 to 18 different organizations in the region, the bank said. The foundation was established in 1996 as part of the bank’s 150th anniversary celebration.
Its purpose is to fund needs that contribute to the economy and the social well-being of the people and institutions located in the Attleboro and Taunton area, as well as Dartmouth and Pawtucket.
Since the foundation began, more than $5.75 million in grants have been awarded to more than 300 501c(3) organizations. In 2009, the foundation awarded a record $822,472 to 129 different organizations.
