Noting that this year’s “challenging economy” is “putting more strain on Rhode Islanders,” Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has made special year-end donations of $1,500 each to local social-service and health care organizations.
“We recognize the increase in need this year and are committed to helping our partner organizations that are helping our fellow Rhode Islanders,” said Linda Newton, the insurer’s vice president of diversity and community relations.
Newton explained that while “there are so many worthwhile organizations” in the state, Blue Cross had chosen those with which it has a relationship through its volunteer program or through board service, that directly serve Rhode Islanders, and “that offer services that align with our vision to improve the lives of all Rhode Islanders.”
The beneficiaries are Progreso Latino in Central Falls, the Rhode Island Community Food Bank in Providence, Amos House in Providence, McAuley House in Providence, Crossroads Rhode Island in Providence, the Rhode Island Free Clinic in Providence, St. Mary’s Home for Children in North Providence, Meals on Wheels in Providence, AIDS Care Ocean State in Providence, John Hope Settlement House in Providence, The Genesis Center in Providence, the Urban League of Rhode Island in Providence, Federal Hill House in Providence, the Good Neighbor Energy Fund (administered by the Salvation Army), and Family Service of Rhode Island in Providence.
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island is the state’s largest health insurer, covering more than 680,000 lives. It is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. For more information, go to www.bcbsri.com.
