PROVIDENCE – The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has awarded Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island 4.5 out of 5 stars for all of its Medicare Advantage plans continuing into 2025.
No other Medicare Advantage plans offered to Rhode Islanders for 2025 scored higher than 4.5 stars. Out of the 521 Medicare Advantage plans rated by CMS for 2025, less than 100 earned a rating of 4.5 or higher – seven plans received 5 stars.

“We’re thrilled to once again be offering the highest-rated Medicare Advantage plans for Rhode Island’s Medicare population,” said Martha L. Wofford, CEO and president of Blue Cross. “CMS ratings are particularly meaningful to us because they are based on the actual experiences of our 75,000 Medicare Advantage members. We’re honored that we’ve earned their trust, which we work hard to win every day, and are grateful to our provider partners and associates, who consistently deliver high-quality services to our members.”
The rating system is meant to help those with Medicare compare the quality of Medicare health and drug plans offered. This includes providing information about program quality, benefits and costs to help beneficiaries compare plans and choose the option that meets their health needs, according to CMS.
Medicare’s annual enrollment period goes from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. Approximately 240,000 Rhode Islanders will be presented with insurance information.
There are several changes to the 2025 Medicare Advantage market, including a reduction in the annual out-of-pocket limit for prescription drugs from $5,030 to $2,000 and new rules implemented by CMS on how health plans administer prescription benefits. Members who would like to continue with a Blue Cross Medicare Advantage plan continuing into 2025 can allow their coverage to automatically renew.
