Blue Cross earns perfect score for LGBTQ equality on national index

PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has earned a perfect score on the 2021 Corporate Equality Index, a national survey and report focused on LGBTQ equality in the workplace.

Administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the full report can be found here.

This year’s index evaluated policies and practices, including nondiscrimination policies, for LGBTQ employees. Other factors included corporate social responsibility and culture in the workplace.

Blue Cross earned a score of 100% and a designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality. More than 750 major U.S. businesses earned the same score.

“As the only Rhode Island company to have received a perfect score for the past seven years consecutively, Blue Cross is proud of our corporate values championing LGBTQ inclusion. But our work toward a diverse and inclusive workforce is never done,” said Jenny Bautista, Blue Cross diversity, equity and inclusion manager. “At this moment, we are undertaking a companywide endeavor to promote use of gender pronouns in our organization, to create an even more welcoming space for people of all genders. There’s always more we can do.”
