Boston sees fewer tech openings this month

URBANDALE, Iowa – Technology job openings in the Boston metro area are down from last month but up 42 percent compared to this time last year, according to technology job-search site Dice.com.
As of Aug. 1, there were 3,176 job openings in the Boston metro area listed on Dice’s site, placing the area as the sixth-best area for technology jobs in the country. It only had 2,235 openings listed on Aug. 2, 2010.
Nevertheless, Boston had fewer openings than the 3,283 that were posted as of July 1, when it ranked fifth-best in the nation.
The metro areas ranking higher this month thank Boston were: New York and New Jersey (9,387 job openings), Washington, D.C., and Baltimore (7,966 openings), Silicon Valley (5,113 openings), Chicago (3,552 openings) and Los Angeles (3,177 openings).
Dice has fewer jobs posted on its site overall compared to last month. As of July 1, the site had 82,867 available jobs, compared to 81,498 as of Aug. 1. There were drops in full-time positions, contract positions and part-time positions.
Dice also announced the results of a survey of more than 750 tech professionals, which revealed that older tech workers were more likely than mid-career workers to state that they would choose to work at a startup company.
