Co-owners of Shaidzon Beer Co. – Josh Letourneau and Chip Samson – are no strangers to the craft-brewing business.
A Rehoboth native, Letourneau served as head brewer at Grey Sail Brewing in Westerly from 2011 to 2017. Longtime friend Chip Samson developed an interest in craft beer living in Colorado. After returning to Rhode Island in 2016, Samson, a South Kingstown native, joined Letourneau at Grey Sail before the two decided to strike out on their own.
Shaidzon opened for business on Nov. 22.
Samson is confident Rhode Islanders will like a European influence in their brews. To date, the duo has brewed numerous Belgian beers, said Samson, as well as a Czech Pilsner, a German black beer, or schwarzbier, and a French biere de garde.
Samson doesn’t see the growing industry as competition, in fact, the space they are operating in now was the original launch site of Proclamation Ale Co., which relocated to Warwick.
It was a “fortunate circumstance,” said Samson, who looks forward to spreading awareness of Shaidzon among “the craft-beer-enthused consumers of this area.”
