An “uphill adventure” is the way Armando DeDona, president and director of Long Live Beerworks, describes pursuing his dream of owning his own brewery.

DeDona, 37, spent a year and a half getting permits and equipment for the business, which opened Jan. 9 at 425 West Fountain St. in Providence. The passion for making beers is what drives him. As the first quarter of 2016 ended, he had brewed five ales, all made on the premises.

“Everything has been a challenge,” he said. “Some permitting took about four to five months to complete. Even after we’ve been open for two months, there’s just a ton of paperwork. We’re still working out the tweaks in the brewing equipment.”

He is marketing chiefly on social media and has plans to hire one or more workers soon, he said. He is also participating in upcoming beer festivals in May and June, and has joined the R.I. Brewers Guild, he added.

“The interaction with customers is the best part of owning a brewery,” he said. •
