Buses and planes – both things keep people moving. But in his career, Brian C. Schattle has kept the buses and planes moving.
The 36-year-old Schattle, chief financial officer of the R.I. Airport Corporation, spent time at KPMG and Stanley Works in East Greenwich. But time at transportation-related entities has provided him with his greatest career experiences.
Schattle joined Bonanza Bus Lines in November 1998 – shortly after the New England region operations had been acquired by Coach USA – and helped integrate Bonanza into Coach USA’s corporate structure.
Schattle looks to Bonanza’s late President George Sage as a towering influence in his business career.
“Most of my core values and work ethic come from the foundation that was formed by my experience with George. … George was an inspiration for everyone he encountered,” Schattle said.
As much as he enjoyed that experience, the opportunity to become CFO of the airport corporation was something he could not pass up.
“Being a native Rhode Islander, I knew that T.F. Green [Airport] was one of the largest economic drivers for the state and that it would be a tremendous place to work,” he wrote in his application.
As CFO for the airport, Schattle has overseen several crucial projects, including the issuing of 2005 and 2008 revenue bonds to finance capital improvements. Additionally, he presided over the issuing of special-financing bonds to help develop the $267 million Warwick Intermodal Facility.
Thankful for the experience that Sage and others have given him, Schattle is eager to give back. For instance, he serves on the College of Business Accounting Advisory Board for his alma mater, the University of Rhode Island. In addition, he serves on the boards for the Providence Ronald McDonald House and the March of Dimes Rhode Island Chapter.
He even finds time to coach Little League teams for both of his sons, Brian, 9, and Bobby, 7. •
