Bristol County lifts boil water advisory

BRISTOL – The Bristol County Water Authority has lifted its boil water advisory as of 1 p.m. this afternoon.

Since Tuesday, Barrington, Bristol and Warren water customers had been advised to boil any water that would be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, cooking or bathing infants after tests of the system found it to be contaminated with Escherichia coli bacteria, or E. coli.

An employee at the water authority said this afternoon that residents and businesses in the three towns can use the water safely again, effectively immediately.

The employee also said the authority is aware that its Web site, bcwa-ri.com, is down and attempts are being made to fix the problem.
