Brown gets $1M grant to aid enrollment program

PROVIDENCE – Brown University has received a $1 million grant to establish the College Advising Corps at its Howard R. Swearer Center for Public Service, expanding an existing program of student volunteer college advisers based at the center.
The award is part of a $10 million nationwide initiative from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to boost graduation rates and four-year college enrollment among low-income high school and community college students by helping with applications and financial aid.
Low-income students are known to be less likely than their wealthier counterparts to have access to SAT preparation, college application guidance and information about financial aid.
