PROVIDENCE – Brown University has selected a New York City-based architecture firm, REX, led by Joshua Prince-Ramus, to design its new performing arts center, the school announced in a press release on Friday. The building will be located on the university’s College Hill campus between Angell St. and Waterman St.
“We’re excited to work with architects with the stature and experience to bring life to our vision for a state-of-the-art home for the performing arts,” University President Christina H. Paxson said in a statement. “This new center will build on Brown’s rich arts heritage, serve as a venue for both traditional and groundbreaking new works, and strengthen our connection to the greater community.”

Their penetrating intellectual and creative approach to process is one of the many reasons they’re a great fit for Brown and for the performing arts center project.”
The building will be built in a location currently occupied by a parking lot, three residential structures and two academic buildings.
Detailed planning for the PAC is slated to begin in summer 2017.
The press release from Brown noted that Prince-Ramus has been honored with awards from the American Institute of Architects, the U.S. Institute for Theatre Technology and the American Council of Engineering Companies, among other organizations.
