Brownfields basics boot camp to be held in Central Falls

CENTRAL FALLS – A ‘brownfields basics boot camp’ for city officials and others interested in how to identify opportunities in vacated industrial sites will be held next week. The free seminar is organized and hosted by the city of Central Falls, Grow Smart Rhode Island and the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

According to the overview, the presence of underused or vacant industrial sites is plentiful in cities such as Pawtucket and Central Falls, because of their history as factory centers.

The boot camp will cover topics including what is a brownfield, assessments, remediation and the redevelopment process. Some successful examples will be discussed, along with comments from state and federal agencies.

To register, visit the Facebook site for Grow Smart. Although free of charge, a registration ticket is requested. The seminar is from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 17 at Navigant Credit Union, 693 Broad St., Central Falls.
