SMITHFIELD — The John H. Chafee Center for International Business at Bryan University will host a July 19 breakfast briefing of General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, at 1150 Douglas Pike, Smithfield, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The session is also presented by the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association, according to a press release.
The GDPR is a regulation on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union. The session — which features guest speakers — will also address exporting personal data outside the EU, and how the GDPR will effect businesses.
The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights states that EU citizens have the right to protect personal data. The GDPR regulation provides movement of such data, with companies now preparing to comply with the new law.
According to Bryant, scheduled speakers are: Stephen Ucci, counsel, Adler Pollock & Sheehan of Providence; Rick Grundy, president and chief operating officer of Avtech Corp. in Warren; Thomas Seewoester, executive director of manufacturing with Amgen Inc. in West Greenwich; and Donna Sinnery, chief human resource officer with Teknor Apex Co. of Pawtucket.
The fee for the session is $50; registration can be made here.
