AQUARIUM

Gerry E. Studds, a former congressman who represented Southeastern Massachusetts for twelve consecutive terms, has been named the new executive director of the New Bedford Aquarium. In the two years since his retirement, Studds has served as a private consultant to enterprises ranging from commercial fisheries to shipbuilding to biotechnology. For eleven of his terms in Congress, he served on the Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries, becoming its chairman during the 103rd Congress.

Chef Walter Potenza
Chef Walter Potenza, of Wal-ter’s La Locanda Del Coccio was nominated for an Emmy for his television show “Flavors & Knowledge with Chef Walter”. Born in Italy, Poten-za had cooked at a number of New England’s finest restaurants, before opening Walter’s of East Greenwich, The Sun Flower Café, and Walter’s La Locanda Del Coccio. His program appears on ABC 6 at 8:30 a.m. on the last Sunday of every month. The 22nd Boston/New England Emmy Awards Ceremony was held on June 5 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.

 

Chef Michael V. Lombardi

Chef Michael V. Lombardi has been named executive chef of The Boathouse Restaurant. He has more than twenty years of experience as both master and executive chef. Lombardi holds a certification as Master Chef from the Federation Francaise in Paris, France. He was previously the master chef at the Providence Art Club.

 

FINANCE

John S. Renza, III
John S. Renza, III has joined The Capital Group Financial Advisors, Inc. as a financial planning coordinator. He will be responsible for coordinating and developing estate and intergenerational transfer plans for clients, together with attorneys, accountants, and other professionals. Renza is a graduate of Boston College and Southern New England School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate Degree.

 

HEALTH CARE

Dr. James Burrill, MD
Dr. James D. Burrill, chief of geriatrics at Landmark Medical Center, has been presented with the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Med-icine’s Community-Based Teaching Program award. Burrill was nominated by the Brown University School of Medicine/Memorial Hospital Department of Medicine for serving as a role model to the program’s medical residents and students. He practices at the Landmark Senior Health Center in Woonsocket, which is a primary care site which cares exclusively for seniors age 60 and up.

 

LAW

Christine M. Antonelli
Christine M. Antonelli has become associated with the firm of McGovern Noel & Benik, Inc. A member of the Rhode Island Bar, she concentrates in banking, bankruptcy and real estate law. Prior to joining the firm, Antonelli interned with the Rhode Island Superior Court and the Missouri Court of Appeals. She received her baccalaureate cum laude from the University of New Hampshire and her juris doctorate from St. Louis University Law School.

 

 

MANUFACTURING

Dan Cole
Dan Cole has been appointed director of manufacturing for Toray Plastics (America) Inc.’s line of polyester films. He will be responsible for all aspects of polyester resin and film manufacturing in Toray’s polymer and film plants. Films produced at the company’s North Kingstown facility serve a wide range of applications, including video tape, audio tape, thermal transfer film and numerous other industrial uses. Cole is a nine-year veteran of Toray, previously responsible for managing the company’s polymerization processes. He holds a bachelors degree in chemical engineering from the University of Florida, Gainesville.

 

MORTGAGING

Neil F. Murray
Neil F. Murray has been appointed mortgage loan officer of The Washington Trust Company. He is now responsible for originating home mortgages and home equity loans and lines of credit in the Westerly, Richmond and Hopkinton areas. A graduate of Iona College in New York, Murray joins Washington Trust from Eastern Mortgage Corp. in Warwick, where he served as mortgage loan officer. A Wakefield resident, he has been a coach for the South Kingstown Little League and South Kingstown Recreation Committee, as well as a volunteer for the South Kingstown Cub Scouts.

 

Daniel Kolenda
Daniel Kolenda has recently joined the staff of Plymouth Mortgage Company as a senior mortgage officer in the company’s Warwick office. In this position he is responsible for the production of mortgage loans in southern Rhode Island. The Cranston resident has fifteen years of experience in the sales, real estate and residential mortgage industries. He is a member of the Kent/Washington County Board of Realtors and the Rhode Island Association of Realtors

 

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Carol Dietz
Carol Dietz has been promoted to senior public relations account executive at America House Communications. With more than 16 years of experience in the public relations industry, she owned and operated her own public relations firm, Dietz & Dietz before joining America House last year. With America House she plans and executes a host of creative public relations and media relations campaigns as well as writing some of the marketing materials. Dietz, who lives in Portsmouth, will concentrate her efforts on clients Bess Eaton Donut and Coffee Shops of Westerly and HMS of Newport.
