Carcieri, DOH announce new innovation awards

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Donald L. Carcieri and the R.I. Department of Health announced last week that they are seeking nominees for the new Governor’s Awards for Wellness Innovation.
The program, aimed at recognizing organizations for “creative programs and policies that address the wellness needs of their employees,” is looking for organizations that address issues including: tobacco control, seat belt use, healthy weight, physical activity and nutrition. The awards are part of the Governor’s Wellness Initiative, a Carcieri program that aims to cut the number of Rhode Islanders with unhealthy and unsafe habits in half by 2010.
Organizations eligible include: worksites, schools, health care organizations, municipal government, community-based and faith-based organizations, nonprofits, organized labor, state agencies and media organizations.
