BOSTON – The Boston Celtics’ 131-92 victory last night over the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association’s 2008 Playoffs will be commemorated with a special-edition Wheaties package, cereal-maker General Mills today announced.
The 15.6-ounce commemorative package will feature 11-time NBA All-Star Kevin Garnett (No. 5). It will be the third Wheaties-box appearance for Garnett and the fourth for the Celtics.
The team swept through the finals in just six games, to its first NBA title in 22 years and its 17th ever.

The Celtics box will be available nationwide for a limited time, starting in about three weeks, the company said. Wheaties – a whole-wheat cereal that calls itself “The breakfast of champions” – has a longtime history of showcasing victors in team and individual sports.
The NBA previously has warned Celtics fans shopping for commemorative merchandise to beware of counterfeits. “As the Celtics continue to win … their merchandise becomes more popular among basketball fans and counterfeiters alike,” Ayala Deutsch, the NBA’s senior vice president and chief intellectual property counsel, said last night.
