Chafee ahead in new Rasmussen gov. poll

Former U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee is the favorite to become Rhode Island’s next governor, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted Feb. 25.
Republican-turned-independent Chafee currently holds double-digit leads over his Democratic and Republican rivals in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Donald L. Carcieri.
If Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch, a Democrat, is the nominee, Chafee leads 38 percent to 24 percent, with Carcieri aide John Robitaille, a Republican, earning 22 percent of the vote. Sixteen percent are undecided under that scenario, the poll said.
If the Democratic nomination goes to Rhode Island General Treasurer Frank T. Caprio, Chafee leads 37 percent to 27 percent. Under that scenario, Robitaille earns 19 percent of the vote, with 17 percent of voters undecided.
Voters polled viewed Chafee the most favorably, with 54 percent responding that they saw him in either a “very favorable” or “somewhat favorable” light. Caprio drew 52 percent, Lynch got 37 percent and Robitaille got 31 percent. &#8226
