PROVIDENCE – Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee has appointed Paula M. McNamara to the R.I. State Investment Commission – a 10-member panel chaired by General Treasurer Gina Raimondo that decides how state funds are invested.
The Chafee administration said McNamara has held several high-ranking positions at Fidelity Investments since 1987, most recently serving as senior director of client services development in Smithfield. She has also served as president of the board of trustees at the Lincoln School in Providence.
She currently serves as president and administrative officer for the Murray Family Charitable Foundation. She is the daughter of former Fleet Financial CEO Terrence Murray.
“Paula McNamara brings a broad range of investment experiences to the State Investment Commission,” Chafee said. “Her financial knowledge has been formed across the spectrum of private, online development, and education sectors. Paula will be a valuable addition to this important commission.”
Raimondo signaled her support of the appointment in a Chafee press release.
“I am hopeful the Senate will take swift action to approve this request from Governor Chafee,” Raimondo said. “Paula’s background and experience will be a valuable asset to the Commission in its efforts to get the best investment returns on behalf of the state.”
McNamara, a resident of East Providence, is the first of three appointments Chafee will make to the commission. Her selection goes before the Senate for its advice and consent.
