MENLO PARK, Calif. – More than half of chief information officers allow their employees to use social media while at work for business purposes, a survey by IT employment agency Robert Half Technology found.
The number, 51 percent, has greatly increased in 2011 from the 19 percent seen in 2009.

Nevertheless, 31 percent of the surveyed organizations completely prohibit social media use at the office, it said.
“Companies recognize the value of using social media for brand building, whether it’s marketing a product, offering customer service, gathering information, or simply listening to what fans and followers have to say,” said John Reed, executive director of Robert Half Technology.
