Citizens, WJAR-TV seek environmental nonprofit applicants for champion award

PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank and WJAR-TV NBC 10 are seeking nonprofit applicants with a focus on environmental stewardship for their 2020 Champions in Action program, according to a news release.

The second annual award and program offers one nonprofit winner $35,000 in unrestricted funds from Citizens Bank, media coverage from WJAR-TV, along with volunteer and promotional support. Eligible applicants must be Rhode Island-based, registered 501(c)3 nonprofits with total operating budgets of $5 million or less and focus on community-based environmental programming.

Environmental education and awareness, natural resource conservation, pollution mitigation, biodiversity protection, sustainable development, green technology and urban revitalization are all considered environmental programming.

Applications are available online and must be submitted by Feb. 21. The winner will be announced in July.

Champions in Action is part of Citizens Bank’s Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, which offers support for small nonprofit organizations throughout Rhode Island.
