Comcast named top amphitheater again

MANSFIELD – For the second year in a row, the Comcast Center has been honored as the top amphitheater in the Billboard Touring Awards.

The Comcast Center, owned by Live Nation Inc., beat out two other venues – the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto and the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, N.J. – to win the award, which is determined by gross ticket sales.

Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” tour won the top tour and top draw awards. The awards were announced last week at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City as part of Billboard’s annual Touring Conference & Awards.

The Comcast Center opened in 1986 as the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts, and was known as the Tweeter Center from 1999 through 2007.

Performers who played at the 19,900-seat Mansfield venue this year included Coldplay, Phish and perennial favorite Jimmy Buffett.
