PROVIDENCE – A community-input planning process for the redevelopment of brownfield sites in Providence along the Woonasquatucket River corridor will begin on Saturday, the Office of Mayor Jorge O. Elorza announced Friday.
A picnic will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at 247 Valley St. in which residents will be able to share their vision for the future of the surrounding neighborhoods. Providence and the development firm Principle Group will summarize community input into a plan to help guide the investments planned for the area. More public meetings are scheduled for Nov. 14, 16 and 18 at the WaterFire Arts Center.

Part of the redevelopment is funded by a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Brownfields Area-Wide Planning program. This money will be used to tie together multiple initiatives, including a planned $6 million project to revitalize the Woonasquatucket River Greenway.
