Congressmen to headline anti-foreclosure workshop

PROVIDENCE – U.S. Reps. James R. “Jim” Langevin and Patrick J. Kennedy next week will join Rhode Island Housing in presenting a two-hour foreclosure-counseling workshop for Rhode Island residents.
The workshop will be given in cooperation with the Rhode Island Housing’s HelpCenter counseling program.

“We’re here to help,” Richard H. Godfrey Jr., executive director of Rhode Island Housing, said in a statement.

“Every day, our HelpCenter counselors work with Rhode Islanders who are trying to avoid or cope with foreclosure. Thanks to the support of our congressional delegation and our counseling partners, the upcoming workshop will provide more help for more Rhode Islanders in crisis,” he said.

The workshop – the second of two free anti-foreclosure sessions featuring Kennedy and Langevin – will be held at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Flanagan Campus in Lincoln from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 18. “We will assess individual situations and provide counseling, resources and support to help them safely afford to keep their homes, or find a new home that meets their needs and fits their budget,” Godfrey said.

Rhode Island Housing’s partners in the HelpCenter program include the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the R.I. Housing Resources Commission Money Management Inc., The Housing Network and Rhode Island Legal Services.
