Construction spending down in Sept.

ARLINGTON, Va. – National construction spending decreased 1.3 percent in September compared with the same period last year, the Associated Contractors of America said Tuesday.
The seasonally-adjusted rate of construction spending in the country dropped to $787.2 billion in September from $797.3 million last September. The September spending total represented a 1.3 percent increase from August.
“In less than a year’s time, the public sector has gone from propping up the construction industry to holding,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist. “Even as local and state budgets continue to contract, the federal government is winding the stimulus and base realignment programs down and cutting billions from key water and facility investment programs.”
