University Medicine, a leader in the field of medical research, encourages higher learning for all of its employees. It allocates 10 percent of its revenue toward higher education for its workers, providing tuition reimbursement of $2,500 per year to physicians for continuing medical education and $1,000 per year to nurse practitioners.
Some physicians receive funding for advanced management degrees. Flexible schedules are offered to accommodate employees who are studying for board-certification exams and who attend college courses during the day.
Appropriately, employees take advantage of superb medical coverage. University Medicine offers medical and dependent-care, flexible-spending accounts, up to $3,000 and $5,000 respectively. Employees who participate receive a credit card to pay for medical and dependent-care costs that they incur.
The company also contracted with the R.I. Employee Assistance service to provide free confidential counseling to employees and their family members in times of need.
University Medicine provides more than $1 million of free care to people in Rhode Island and donates time and effort to countless nonprofit organizations locally and globally.
“Our international reach provides financial and medical resources to the under-served throughout the world,” said Chief Human Resource Officer Tammy Lederer.
“This caring transfers to our employees, their work experience, and quality of life.” •
