Council seeks input on implementing health IT

BOSTON – The Mass. Health Information Technology Council is holding hearings to get input from doctors, hospitals and others on how to implement electronic medical records and health-information exchanges across the state, using an estimated $40 million to $70 million in federal stimulus bill funds expected to come in over the next year.
The council is seeking comments on the greatest barriers and challenges facing providers in implementing health care IT; whether different types of doctors face different challenges; what the state can do to help providers qualify for federal incentives; and whether the state should prioritize by provider types or in any other way.
The council is also asking providers to share their experiences with EMRs and health-information exchanges and to identify lessons that should be taken into account when implementing a statewide effort. •
