Cox a party to $150M interactive advertising project

WASHINGTON – A group of companies including Cox Communications Inc. is planning to spend about $150 million to build a national service that can deliver targeted advertising using data collected from television-set-top boxes, according to Bloomberg News.

The venture, named Project Canoe, came to light during an investors’ conference attended by Philadelphia-based Comcast Corp., which acknowledged planning to spend $50 million to $70 million on the project.

Other Canoe participants, according to Bloomberg News, were Time Warner Cable Inc., Cablevision Systems Corp., Charter Communications Inc. and Bright House Networks.

Cox Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of the privately owned Cox Enterprises, is a broadband communications and entertainment company with more than 6 million customers nationwide including about 450,000 basic cable subscribers in New England.
