Credit Unions of Rhode Island surpasses $1M in donations to Special Olympics RI

PROVIDENCE – After two decades of philanthropic giving, a $131,000 donation earlier this summer to Special Olympics Rhode Island from the statewide collaboration known as Credit Unions of Rhode Island has brought the organization’s total sum donated to Special Olympics to more than $1 million.

The collaboration, which is made up of 15 local credit unions, is a member of the Cooperative Credit Union Association out of Marlborough, Mass. Its annual philanthropic calendar, which includes multiple statewide events and is managed by the Rhode Island branch’s Social Responsibility Committee, includes an Inspire Greatness Calendar Raffle, Sweenor’s candy bar sales, a bowling tournament, individual credit union donations and the Credit Unions of Rhode Island Charity Golf Tournament.

In addition, the credit union collaborative sends more than 60 volunteers to the Special Olympics Rhode Island Summer Games held each year at the University of Rhode Island.

CCUA President and CEO Paul Gentile highlighted the work of the Rhode Island group, in particular the contributions of its Social Responsibility Committee.
