PROVIDENCE – The U.S. Department of Defense’s Cyber Crime Center is looking for teams from Rhode Island to participate in its 2011 Forensics Challenge.
The DC3 Digital Forensic Challenge is a public, online and international competition held annually and is call to the digital forensics community to pioneer new investigative tools, techniques, and methodologies.
The challenge is currently lacking teams from Rhode Island as well as Nebraska, Alabama, Iowa and West Virginia.
New York, with 44 teams, took the lead for total number of teams on April 29 with Maryland in second, 42 teams.
The competition consists of 25 unique challenges ranging from basic forensics to advanced tool development.
Early submissions were being awarded 20 percent bonus points until May 1; teams now have until July 1 to enter their submissions in order to receive 10 percent bonus points.
Levels range from novice (101: Windows Registry Analysis) to developer (ex: level 501 – Imaging the Android OS – Tool Development).
Final registration ends on Nov. 1 and the solutions are due on Nov. 2; winners will be announced on Dec. 1.
