PROVIDENCE – Loriana De Crescenzo, executive director of Opera Providence, resigned her position Friday to pursue other opportunities.
The Rhode Island native, who joined the company as its education director about seven and a half years ago, said she is proud of what she has accomplished with the 17-year-old opera company.

In the past three years, De Crescenzo said, the nonprofit has seen a 200-percent increase in audience attendance to shows. And through its collaboration with entities including the Providence Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, local singers were able to display their talent in new venues, such as DePasquale Square on Federal Hill.
During her time with Opera Providence, De Crescenzo noted, the company got accolades from Gov. Donald L. Carcieri for providing special needs children as well as adults with access to the operatic art form. It also received citations from Mayor David N. Cicilline for providing access to children and youth, through its OPERAtunity education and outreach program.
The company also earned full membership in Opera America, and was honored with the 2007 Jabez Gorham Award for Artistic Excellence from the Arts & Business Council of Rhode Island.
“I’m proud to have done my part,” De Crescenzo said, adding: “I’m looking at some exciting options to still be involved in the Rhode Island community.”
