PROVIDENCE – The list of Providence schools to be closed was once again postponed until Monday by Superintendent Thomas Brady and Mayor Angel Taveras on Wednesday.
The decision, originally slated for March 7, was pushed back to March 9; now, the school department now says the list will be made public on March 14.

“The decision to postpone reflects the seriousness of the process, the complex variables that must be considered before a school is closed, and a commitment to conduct school closures in a manner that produces the best outcomes for students and significant cost savings for the city,” said a news release issued by the Providence Public School District.
The new release also noted the ongoing conversations with the Providence Teachers Union; those affected by the closures will be terminated and the ones unaffected will have their letters of dismissal, issued to all Providence school teachers on Feb. 23, rescinded.
