PROVIDENCE – The National Science Foundation’s Regional Grants Conference next month at the Renaissance Providence Hotel, featuring agency Director Dr. Aren Bement and other top NSF officials already is fully booked.
The event, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, is slated for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 7 and 8, at the Renaissance Providence Hotel. A separate day of FastLane/Grants.gov workshops – on Sunday, April 6 – is planned to aid faculty and research administrators who wish to apply for an NSF grant. Besides Bement, the conference offers researchers, educators, faculty and administrators an opportunity to meet representatives of the agency’s Office of International Science & Engineering, Office of the General Counsel and Office of the Inspector General, as well as key officials from each NSF program directorate. Topics are to include the NSF proposal preparation and review process, conflict-of-interest policies; new programs and initiatives; and cross-disciplinary and special-interest programs. Additional breakout programs will focus on specific disciplines.
The NSF is an independent federal agency established by Congress in 1950 “to promote the progress of science; [and] to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare by supporting research and education in all fields of science and engineering.” It finances innovation and education in science and technology, including projects in chemistry, biology, medicine, astronomy, oceanography, engineering and materials research, industrial and manufacturing innovation and computer science, as well as math and science education, from the primary level up.
