PROVIDENCE – After three weeks of weekend-only demolition intended to reduce impacts on neighboring workplaces, the razing of the John E. Fogarty Memorial Building is scheduled to resume later this week.
About two-thirds of the building has already been demolished. But workers stopped regular weekday activity on the Fountain Street site about four weeks ago.

“Demolition activity had been moved to the weekends about three weeks ago,” said Ralph Izzi Jr., a spokesman for the building owner, The Procaccianti Group.
The decision had related to issues such as traffic control, equipment availability, and demolition in close proximity to a neighboring building, occupied by Hasbro Inc.
All are typical challenges of urban demolition, he said.
The former government building is being torn down for construction of a Marriott Residence Inn.
Weekday operations are to resume Wednesday with site preparation continuing through Friday and the demolition of the remaining vertical structure extending through Saturday, he said in an emailed message.
