USA Funds announced the award of a $25,000 matching grant to the American Dream Challenge, a division of the Fall River chapter of Dollars for Scholars.
The grant will match the local contributions raised by a fundraising initiative led by Nicholas M. Christ, president and CEO of Citizen’s-Union Savings Bank, and Joseph Martins, Fall River School Committee member. In addition, the grant recognizes the work of Irving Fradkin, who founded the Dollars for Scholars program and the Scholarship America program in Fall River in 1958.
“This matching grant is a golden opportunity for the community to provide local students with the chance to further their education. We as a community should all give the same energy and commitment to academic success as Dr. Fradkin has over the past 50 years in Fall River,” said Christ.
The American Dream Challenge is an essay contest that gives students in the fourth, sixth, eighth and 10th grades the opportunity to earn scholarships for their college education. •
