The Amgen Foundation has awarded a $46,200 grant to the Dorcas Place Adult and Family Learning Center of Providence.
The donation supports the Dorcas Place’s adult education and work force literacy program, which helps to enhance the employability of low-income adults by increasing their academic and work skills, language proficiency and access to GED and post-secondary education opportunities.
“With Rhode Island suffering from one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation, there is an ever-pressing need for work force readiness programs in the state,” said Kimball Hall, vice president of Rhode Island operations, Amgen. “We are pleased that the Amgen Foundation recognizes this need, and supports Dorcas Place in its efforts to make educational resources more accessible to adult learners.”
Since 1991, the foundation has made $130 million in grants to nonprofits in the United States and abroad to advance science education, improve access to quality care and strengthen communities. •
