DOT closes Nannaquaket Bridge

TIVERTON – The R.I. Department of Transportation closed Tuesday the Nannaquaket Bridge for repairs.
The bridge carries Nannaquaket Road over the inlet connecting the Sakonnet River and Nannaquaket Pond.
DOT said it closed the bridge so that crews from Narragansett Improvement Co. can work on large sections of the bridge deck and its sidewalks and speed construction. The closure is expected to last about a month.
“We apologize for any inconveniences this closure may cause,” DOT Director Michael P. Lewis said in a news release. “We will make every effort to reopen the bridge as quickly as possible.”
The bridgework comes as part of a $1.5 million project that includes improvements to Peckham Road and Long Highway in Little Compton.
While the bridge is closed, transportation officials are routing traffic south on Nannaquaket Road, where it eventually connects to Main Road. For more information visit the DOT’s website.
