PROVIDENCE  – The East Bay Community Action Program has received $800,178 in federal funding, Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., said on Monday.

The grant will allow the nonprofit to continue operations, as well as cater to a widening medical client base, according to Reed. The organization is a multiservice community action program providing social, health and human services to children, young adults and families via a wide array of associated programs.

The grant is from the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Primary Health Care’s Section 330 Service Area Competition Program.

“EBCAP provides comprehensive and vital services to Rhode Islanders who otherwise would have no access to health care and other needed services,” said Reed. “It is a community pillar and a very important resource for low-income and underserved children and families across our state.”

EBCAP has operations in numerous locations, including four integrated care sites in Rhode Island: one in Newport, two in East Providence and one in Barrington.
