Edward Broderick |
Gilbane Development Co. |
CEO and president
EDWARD BRODERICK’S ROLE with Gilbane Inc. will change in the fall. But the goal for him to successfully lead the Providence-based construction firm will remain the same.
In October, Broderick, currently CEO and president of Gilbane Development Co. – a Gilbane Inc. subsidiary – will succeed Thomas F. Gilbane Jr. as the company’s CEO. In the new position, Broderick will help Gilbane anticipate challenges, respond quickly with solutions and successfully expand its ability to serve clients.
“Like Tom Gilbane before me, I am focused on making sure my colleagues have the tools, resources, growth opportunities and innovative solutions necessary to continue our shared legacy for the next 150 years,” said Broderick, who has been with the company for 42 years.
Broderick started with Gilbane Building Co. as a laborer, followed by a four-year management training program and then moved to Gilbane Development Co. Among notable projects Broderick has spearheaded are the development of mixed-used communities such as Madison Yards in Wisconsin and The Peninsula in The Bronx, N.Y.
Madison Yards is the largest public-private partnership in Wisconsin’s history in which an outdated government building site was transformed into a 600,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art government center. The Peninsula, formerly a youth detention facility, is a five-building project that offers 740 affordable residential apartments and supportive services for the recently homeless.
Though the COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges to the construction and development industry worldwide, including unprecedented supply chain delays, Gilbane, with its global experience and community connections, rose to the occasion with skilled teams across more than 45 offices nationwide responding quickly to the evolving needs of clients. Gilbane Development Co. closed financing of more than $900 million in projects in 2020 and continued to expand the pipeline in 2021 and 2022.
“It was an interesting chapter of my career, but I’m proud of how Gilbane responded and continued to deliver results and create value for our partners, employees and communities,” Broderick said. “Every day, I have the privilege of coming to work and seeing the best people in the industry bring our clients’ visions to life.”
