EnerNOC to monitor Mass. energy use

BOSTON – Mass. Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Ian Bowles last week announced that EnerNOC, a Boston-based energy-management applications company, will monitor energy usage across more than 17 million square feet of state-owned building space under a federally funded program.
The $10 million Enterprise Energy Management System contract represents nearly 20 percent of State Energy Program funding awarded to Massachusetts by the U.S. Department of Energy under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The effort will target state colleges and universities, state prisons and other public buildings, and will use state-of-the-art technology to track energy use in real time – in the short run, alerting building and agency managers to unexpected usage patterns so they can make fuel-saving adjustments and pinpointing areas in need of an energy-efficiency overhaul.
“As we build a vibrant, clean-energy economy in Massachusetts, energy efficiency needs to be … what we rely on to meet energy demand before considering new power generation,” Gov. Deval L. Patrick said in a news release.
The Enterprise Energy Management System is also expected to create 46 new state jobs – about half of them electricians, mechanical technicians and project managers directly associated with equipment installation and upkeep. &#8226
