WASHINGTON – The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. is warning bank customers against 10 scams targeting consumers this summer.

The FDIC released a cheat sheet of different scams, including one where thieves pose as government employees asking for payment or such valuable information as bank account numbers or Social Security. Others include debt collection scams, fraudulent job offers and overpayment scams.

The release also includes information about basic habits bank customers can apply to daily life in order to defend against such threats.

“The FDIC often hears from bank customers who believe they may be the victims of financial fraud or thefts, and our staff members provide information on where and how to report suspicious activity,” according to the federal insurer.
