Feinstein challenge helps raise $4.9M

CRANSTON – The Feinstein Foundation’s 13th annual holiday challenge helped raise $4.9 million for local nonprofits that help Rhode Islanders in need.
“With the help of many of the local schools, 87 agencies throughout the state participated,” wrote Alan Shawn Feinstein, the nonprofit’s founder and chief executive, and the subject of a 2002 PBN Newsmaker profile, said in announcing another successful season.
Feinstein said the winter fund drives have helped raise a total of $39 million “from caring Rhode Islanders, to help their neighbors in need,” in the years since he launched the $100,000 year-end challenge.
The Feinstein Foundation – founded in 1991 by local philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein – is dedicated to alleviating hunger and encouraging community service. For more information about the foundation, its program or its founder and CEO, visit www.FeinsteinFoundation.org.
