Time— no one has enough of it. In business, available time decreases each day. As leaders, we are pulled in so many directions that continuing education is easily saved for a later day.
For me, prioritizing continuing education has helped me grow professionally and personally. A few examples are:
• Getting involved in a local business organization – whether that be a professional association for your business or your local chamber of commerce. My involvement in the local and national chapters of the Medical Group Management Association enables me to bring the latest changes in health care to my business, my clients and peers. I have built a network of trusted business advisers and I have served in mentorship roles.
• It’s never too late to go back to school. Going back to school at 50, into Bryant University’s Innovative Healthcare Leadership graduate certificate program, was a challenge, especially with my available time. However, the personal satisfaction when it was completed was far more gratifying than it had been many years ago.
My personal lesson learned is that leaders should always keep learning and evolving. Using this knowledge to address a client’s business needs or to educate business associates (who are unable to make the time for education) is the real reward. FIND THE TIME.
