DARTMOUTH – The eighth annual Fishing for a Cause fundraiser donated $220,000 to benefit children and families of The Schwartz School in Dartmouth, part of Meeting Street, a nonprofit child-development organization based in Providence, according to Regan Communications Group Tuesday.

Now in its eighth year, the annual Fishing for a Cause and Seaside Dinner presented by Clarke Distribution Corp. has raised more than $1 million. This year, more than 100 anglers and 300 guests attended the event to make it the largest annual fundraiser for the Schwartz School.

From June 22-23, fishermen and women participated in a two-day catch-and-release tournament on Buzzards Bay in Massachusetts. Following the tournament, comedian Lenny Clarke emceed the seaside dinner, which celebrated tournament competitors, supporters and the families receiving the proceeds.

“We are truly appreciative to all of our volunteers, friends and supporters who make Fishing for a Cause a weekend to circle on the calendar every summer,” Meeting Street President John M. Kelly said in a statement. “The incredible spirit of giving and dedication to our work and to our children is truly humbling.”
