Flagship Trailways to install GPS for buses

JOHNSTON – Flagship Trailways is installing a new satellite security tracking system on its fleet of motor coaches. The new GPS system will be paid for with a grant awarded by the federal Transportation Security Administration to the Trailways Transportation System, of which Flagship Trailways is a member.
The Voyager GPS Technology, which is expected to be installed in the motor coaches by the end of the year, will allow Flagship Trailways – along with local, state and federal security and law enforcement agencies – to identify and track any Flagship Trailways motor coach as it travels throughout the United States, said Thomas McCaughey, owner of Flagship Trailways.
Managers will be able to check on the location, speed and activity of all motor coaches at any time, from any location with an Internet connection. Should bus drivers find themselves in a life-threatening situation, they would be able to alert Flagship Trailways managers via panic buttons installed on the buses. The system can be expanded over time to include on-board cameras and cellular communications, McCaughey said.
