JOHNSTON – Global property insurance giant FM Global added 180 full-time workers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts during 2008 and “is anticipating continued employment growth in 2009,” the company said today.
FM Global’s facilities in Southern New England – the company headquarters in Johnston, research campus in Glocester and offices in Norwood and Waltham, Mass. – ended 2008 with 1,698 employees, after adding 66 new positions over the course of the year. Last year, it filled 95 jobs in Rhode Island, 50 of which were new; and 85 positions in Massachusetts, 16 of which were new. “Most of these jobs were full-time, professional positions in the fields of information technology, finance, underwriting, engineering, research, marketing, training and human resources,” according to the local hiring report issued today.
The company currently is seeking to fill another 40 local jobs – all in IT, engineering or finance – as it completes the $60 million construction of its new headquarters in Johnston and the $38 million expansion of its Research Campus.
“Most of FM Global’s job growth continues to come from higher-level, specialized positions,” said Enzo Rebula, senior vice president for human resources. “These jobs are integral to the company’s ability to develop robust property insurance and engineering solutions for our clients to protect their business operations from fire, natural disasters and other types of property risk.”
FM Global – a commercial and industrial property insurer with clients in more than 130 nations – is a $4.7 billion policyholder-owned mutual insurance company. It employs nearly 5,000 people in 61 offices worldwide, including nearly 1,700 in Southern New England at its headquarters in Johnston, research campus in Glocester and offices in Norwood and Waltham, Mass.
