Foxwoods reports best month of fiscal year

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. – Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods this month reported to the Connecticut State Division of Special Revenue that it took in $62.2 million in slot machine gaming revenue in May, the best month of the fiscal year to date.
The casino, however, reported a 9.6 percent decrease in total slot handle compared to May 2008, the month that MGM Grand at Foxwoods opened.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Foxwoods’ owner, also reported a $15.6 million contribution to the state’s coffers for May 2009. The amount brings the total payments to Connecticut to more than $2.8 billion since January 1993, when slot machines were first introduced at the casino.
“Although our numbers are down from last May, we are pleased that May 2009 was our strongest month of this fiscal year,” said Michael Speller, president of Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises. “Particularly because this month marked a tremendous milestone for our property, the one-year anniversary of the opening of MGM Grand at Foxwoods.” &#8226
