PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island gasoline prices rose an average of 4 cents per gallon over the past week, the second consecutive week of a rise in price after a little more than a month of falling prices, according to AAA Southern New England. The self-serve prices for midgrade and premium unleaded increased by 4 cents per gallon as well.
AAA’s July 16 survey of gas prices in Rhode Island found self-serve, unleaded regular averaging $2.979 per gallon, 14 cents less than at the beginning of the year and 8 cents less than the new national average. One year ago, the average price was $3.079.

The range in prices for self-serve regular in the latest survey was 21 cents, from a low of $2.889 to a high of $3.099, the nonprofit auto club reported. Strong demand from the summer driving season and rising crude oil prices were the reasons cited for the increase by AAA.
Average self-serve prices for other grades of fuel this week were $3.119 per gallon for midgrade unleaded; $3.239 for premium unleaded; and $2.959 for diesel.
